Tonight, in this stillness,
a balmy night unfolds.
Drawn together,
devotedly intertwined,
we fade quickly.
The wind chime
varnishes our last subtle blink.
I think I smell your cologne.
It's dark
and we're rowing gracefully
churning vapor;
the black liquid beneath us
ripples purling whispers.
We inch across the lake
through the fog
through sticky midnight
through asthmatic stillness.
Frozen time
like water.
And suddenly there's a flicker
in the distance
and it grows brighter
and I can see your face again.
Liquid flashes of silvery yellow morning
rip through branches like latticework.
All around is exuberance:
we're flooded with shimmering pearls
and kaleidoscopic crystals.
Its morning again
and your wrapped around me,
and I've never felt so warm.
